Care Instructions
Everything you need to know to keep your moss art looking great
Preserved moss and lichen are impregnated — they retain their natural appearance and structure, but are no longer biologically active. They don't grow, don't need watering, pruning, or sunlight. What they do need is a little awareness of their environment.
General Care
- •No watering, pruning, or sunlight required
- •For indoor use only
- •Keep at least 2 meters away from direct heat sources such as radiators and fireplaces
- •Avoid direct sunlight, especially near large windows that heat up
- •Avoid direct exposure to water or water splashing
What to Avoid
- ✕Direct watering or spraying water onto the moss
- ✕Placing closer than 2 meters to radiators, fireplaces, or other heat sources
- ✕Prolonged direct sunlight, especially near heat-generating windows
- ✕Cleaning chemicals, sprays, or solutions of any kind
- ✕Excessively dry environments without any humidity management
Humidity & Environment
Moss draws moisture from the air — this is what keeps it soft and flexible. The ideal indoor humidity is 40–60%, which is standard in most homes and offices.
- •Ideal humidity range: 40–60% — typical for most indoor spaces
- •If the air is too dry (e.g. during heating season), the moss may become slightly stiffer
- •In low humidity conditions, use an air humidifier — it benefits both the moss and the people in the room
- •You can also lightly spray water mist near (not on) the moss to raise local humidity
- •Moss can be used in bathrooms — it doesn't need sunlight and actually absorbs excess moisture, helping prevent mold and fungi
Cleaning
Preserved moss is antistatic — it does not attract dust, insects, microorganisms, or even construction dust. Cleaning is rarely needed, but if necessary:
- •Use a soft brush or feather duster for light dusting
- •Gently blow away dust with cool air (hairdryer on cool setting)
- •Use compressed air from a safe distance for stubborn dust
- •Never use water, cleaning products, or chemicals directly on the moss
- •Avoid vacuum cleaners — they may damage the moss
Good to Know
- ✓Allergy-friendly: moss is impregnated with glycerin and will not sensitize allergy sufferers — it actually filters air from toxins, dust, and unpleasant odors
- ✓Antistatic: does not attract dust, insects, or microorganisms
- ✓Bathroom-safe: works well in rooms without windows — absorbs excess moisture and helps prevent mold
- ✓A natural humidity indicator: if people in the room experience dry throat, dry eyes, or heavy breathing, the air is likely too dry — and the moss will feel it too
Lifespan
With proper care and a suitable environment, preserved moss art maintains its beauty and color for many years.
